Biomedical Studies

Welcome to the biomedical studies web pages!  These pages are a home for both the Biomedical Studies Concentration (an academic degree) and the Health Professions Committee. While these two programs do share connections, they are actually quite different; the Biomedical Studies Concentration is an academic degree involving both coursework and career research, while the Health Professions Committee is a service for students preparing for and applying to health professional schools such as medical school or dental school. A third section of these web pages includes a variety of resources for those interested in research biomedical careers. Many of these resources are from or complement the Center for Experiential Learning's excellent career resources.

Biomedical Studies Concentration
The Biomedical Studies Concentration is a multidisciplinary concentration that can be earned in conjunction with any B.A. academic major. The concentration is intended as a plan of study that will enhance the preparation of students entering careers in the biomedical arena ranging from medicine to sports science to hospital administration. It is not a “pre-med” major, although some premedical students certainly find the concentration worthwhile for exploring their career interests. This is a contract concentration where students implement a plan of study to match their individual needs. Visit these pages to learn more.

Health Professions Committee
The Health Professions Committee is comprised of faculty from the sciences and mathematics, and is chaired by Dr. Ted Johnson (Biology Department). It provides both informal advising and a formal service to students interested in medical, dental, and many other health careers. Visit these pages to learn more about pre-health advising at St. Olaf, and the process of applying to medical school and other professional schools.

Resources for Exploring Biomedical Careers
