Ecology is a science of connections. Campus Ecology is a practice of connections. And the internet can be a network of catalysts and connections for Campus Ecology. St. Olaf's environmental consciousness and practices exist in a world-wide web of environmental understanding and activism.
Thousands of websites offer information, inspiration, advice and examples for people hoping for a sustainable future. Such sites are a new natural resource for people trying to preserve natural sites. Here are some websites that might prove useful to you in your journey toward sustainability. - National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Project
The starting point for Campus Ecology planning, this site keeps track of planning and projects nationwide.
- The Center for a New American Dream
An invaluable resource for people concerned about the American Dream, and looking for practical steps in changing their consumption patterns. The Center also has a great interest in raising sustainable children, and raising children sustainably.
- Northwest Environment Watch
An amazing organization based in Seattle , keeping track of the environmental health of the Cascadia bioregion, and offering clear, succinct reports and suggestions for change. Their short book Stuff: The Secret Lives of Everyday Things is a gem. And many of their publications are on-line and/or available for downloading.
- Public Agenda on the environment
A rich nonpartisan resource of information and polls about the environment.
- Oberlin College Environmental Studies
David Orr is one of the leading spirits of Campus Ecology. His books Ecological Literacy and (especially) Earth in Mind are required reading for people interested in sustainable education.. There's no single website that captures his environmental impact on college campuses all over the country, but this page shows his influence at Oberlin College , including the revolutionary Adam Joseph Lewis Center.
